FAQ

Who operates Car Donation Network?

Car Donation Network is a Community Dotcom project operated primarily by Recycling Lives – an organisation that won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development for its focus on social, ethical and environmental agendas. The services makes it easy for you to donate a car to the charity of your choice, which helps the environment, charities and communities across the UK!

What if my car’s not in a very good condition?

You can donate a car to Car Donation Network no matter what condition it’s in. We’re not snobs, so it doesn’t even matter if it’s completely written off or burnt out!

Who will collect my donated car?

All over the UK, there are numerous charities, social enterprises and not-for-profit organisations. It’s from these organisations that we try to select our collection teams, so when you donate a car, you can be sure that the team carrying out the service is working with environmental, social and ethical objectives in mind. The commercial companies we work with are very socially minded folks, who are committed to supporting our charitable objectives as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility agenda.

When will my donated car be collected?

When you decide to donate a car and make a booking with Car Donation Network, we’ll give you a call to arrange a convenient time and date to come and pick your car up.

We’re also happy to take your contact number and call you on the day so you’ll have a better idea of when we’ll be there!

What do I have to do to prepare for the collection?

Not much, actually! If you want to donate a car to us, just make sure it’s accessible – it’s no good if it’s locked away in a garage or out at the back of your home! If you have the documentation that comes with the car – such as the V5 or logbook – then please have that ready to give to our collection team, too!

Can I drop the car off?

Absolutely – saves us a job! If you’d like to donate a car and you want to drop it off yourself, please contact us on 0800 046 1120!

There’s a burnt-out car near my house – can you come and collect that?

We’re happy to do that – after all, nobody likes a burnt-out car hanging around the neighbourhood. Sort of spoils the mood! If you want to donate a car that’s been burnt out or abandoned, simply drop us an email with its location and we’ll contact the local council to make sure they’re happy for us to take it away.

I have a question that isn’t answered here. Is there someone I can talk to?

Go on, then. Take a look at our contact page and get in touch – we don’t bite!

I’m a registered charity. How do I get a profile on Car Donation Network?

If you’re a registered UK charity, getting a profile on Car Donation Network is quick and easy. Our customers could be donating a car to you within a matter of days!

Using our approved charity profiles as a guide, simply send us the brief information you’d like included on your profile and a copy of your logo – one of our team members will be in touch as soon as possible.

What happens to my car? Will you recycle it?

At Car Donation Network, we try to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Depending on the make, model, age and condition of your car, we may be able to make more money for your charity by reselling it. If not, we’ll ensure that as much of the vehicle as possible is recycled at an approved treatment facility, with any viable parts being resold for extra charity profit!

Can I donate a vehicle other than a car?

Well, go on then – seeing as it’s you! We’re generous folks at Car Donation Network and we’re happy to auction or scrap your old van, motorbike, scooter, commercial vehicle – whatever! All we care about is making money for your chosen charity, so whatever vehicle you want to donate, just let us know 🙂

My car isn’t taxed / doesn’t have an MOT – can I still donate it?

Of course! We accept any vehicle in any condition – it doesn’t matter whether your car has current tax or an MOT certificate. Lots of people look to get rid of a car when it fails its MOT and the costs of repairs would be more than buying a new vehicle – we’re happy to take these cars off people’s hands and use them to make money for charity!

Can I donate other kinds of scrap metal to charity?

A large percentage of the money that we raise for charity comes from the sale of donated cars for their scrap metal value. Scrap metals come in all shapes and sizes, from old baths and fire surrounds to washing machines and machinery. Many businesses also dispose of scrap metal in the form of desks and filing cabinets.

Car Donation Network welcomes all types of scrap metal donation and, as long as there’s enough of it to cover the costs of making the trip, we are very happy to come and collect it. To discuss your scrap metal donation, give us a call on 0800 0461120.
